GIS software
GIS software is programs specifically for geographic information systems: making maps, managing layers, spatial analysis, and publishing. Examples: QGIS, ArcGIS Pro, and web platforms such as GeoApps with Viewer, Dashboard, and Fieldwork.
GIS software works with geodata (vector, raster), CRS, WMS/WFS, and attributes. Desktop GIS targets analysts; web GIS software targets broad distribution and collaboration in the browser with PDOK and own layers.
GIS software is not the same as general "software" or the broad geospatial software category. General software (office, ERP) lacks map and CRS logic. Geospatial software also includes ETL and viewers that are not a full analysis suite — GIS software is the core GIS toolchain.
