A successful inspiration afternoon with the Province of Drenthe
ESG Maps joined the Province of Drenthe’s afternoon on greening business parks in Fluitenberg. The takeaway: Drenthe is full of ambition — and data helps turn small steps into energy hubs and solar on roofs.
The power of small steps
The afternoon at De Schildhoeve opened with a keynote from 'Trashpacker' Tijmen Sissing. His message was simple: "If we take small steps together, we might one day reach the main prize… living a long time on a clean and sustainable earth."
That is exactly how we look at the energy transition on business parks. It can feel overwhelming. Make it small — roof by roof, plot by plot — and movement starts. That is where the data comes in.
Drenthe’s ecosystem of frontrunners
The whole Drenthe ecosystem was in the room: frontrunner programmes from Jaap de Vries and Rob Gulmans, Henriëtte Waaijenberg’s mission to make Narline climate-neutral, and the reminder that cooperation is the key.
Municipality of Emmen is pioneering on De Tweeling. Municipality of Tynaarlo is accelerating solar with a smart approach. Paul Dalebout and Bert Scheper explained how the Community of Practice shares knowledge so energy hubs can move faster.
Data as a catalyst: ESG Maps
During the afternoon Egbert Griffioen demonstrated how municipalities and park managers use ESG Maps Pro as a strategic instrument.
Knowing that sites must become more sustainable is one thing. Knowing where the largest opportunities sit is another. In Pro, municipalities can:
- See which roofs are suitable for solar.
- Identify potential locations for energy hubs to ease grid congestion.
- Talk to entrepreneurs with facts instead of assumptions.
We see ourselves as the connecting piece: whether that is supporting the Province with industrial energy leaders, or entrepreneurs via Ik Ben Drents Ondernemer (IBDO). Data is the base.
To be continued
The noses in Drenthe point the same way. A lot is already happening to help companies with sustainability and congestion. Cooperation between the Province, municipalities, PVB, IBDO and the CoP is solid.
