WMS
WMS (Web Map Service) is an OGC standard to serve map layers as raster images (PNG, JPEG) over HTTP. The client requests an image for a bbox and scale; the server renders the layer and returns pixels.
PDOK offers WMS for BRT, BGT, orthophoto, and many themes. Suitable as a fast, consistent background in web viewers and GeoApps. Drawback: no direct access to attributes or editing — visualization only.
WMS is not WFS (which delivers vector features) or a download of source data. For attribute analysis combine WMS with WFS or own vector layers.
