What is biodiversity data in GIS?

Biodiversity refers to the variety of species, ecosystems, and genetic material in an area. In GIS it is mapped and monitored with habitat maps, Natura 2000 sites, species observations, and remote sensing.

Spatial analyses support nature management: core areas, fragmentation, corridors. Dutch sources and policy are combined with BGT/BRT for context.

Biodiversity data is not cadastre or address registry. It is thematic and often time-dependent; quality and currency vary by source and require clear metadata.
