Annotation
Annotations are text, symbols, arrows, dimensions, or other markings added to a map to provide explanation, emphasis, or context. They make a map readable for audiences without requiring every object to have a separate attribute.
In GIS viewers and GeoApps, annotations may be static (fixed labels) or interactive (notes on an area, field inspection comments). They are often separate from source data and intended for presentation or collaboration.
Annotations are not part of official geodata: they do not change BGT, BAG, or other registries. For publication and archiving, distinguish source layers from annotation layers.
