What is user administration in GIS?

Administration in GIS platforms covers managing users, roles, permissions, organizational structure, and system configuration. Administrators decide who may view, edit, or publish which layers, and how applications such as viewers and dashboards are set up.

In GeoApps and similar environments this includes user management, group rights, project or environment settings, and SSO or Active Directory integration. It is the operational basis for secure collaboration with sensitive geodata.

Administration is not asset management or managing data content. It concerns access and platform settings, not a cadastral parcel or pipeline condition. It works together with authentication, authorization, and access control.
