The cycling connection between Apeldoorn and Epe was outdated and not optimal. To improve it, it was decided to involve residents in planning new routes. MapTalk was deployed to collect input on desired routes, safety aspects and priorities.
Residents could indicate via the platform which routes they would like to use, where they experience dangerous situations and which improvements they consider most important. This has resulted in a detailed picture of cyclists' wishes and needs.
The collected input was used to design a new cycling network that aligns with users' wishes. The result is a network of routes that is not only safer but also better aligns with the daily routes people take.
The project demonstrates how participation can lead to more practical and user-friendly solutions. By asking cyclists themselves about their wishes, routes have emerged that better align with the reality of use.
